Hi there!

I want to start by thanking all the folks who’ve played so far. It’s heartwarming to see so many people enjoy this little jam game…

Infernal Engine Defender development has resumed after a hiatus and mulling over what to do next with myself. New content and features will be more regular as the game moves towards a fully realized vertical-slice.

Updates

Transitioning from jam to actively developed project is always a challenge. Tons of house cleaning, redesigning and refactoring has to be done to make adding any new content efficient and sustainable. This update works towards that goal while adding quite a bit of new stuff.

General

  • Endless Mode. Keep fighting the forces of hell for as long as you want (or can).
  • Enemy spawning has been reworked for the new Endless Mode. You can now face multiple waves from different directions in a single round.
  • Simple scoring system added.
  • Game feel updates everywhere… bring on the particles!
  • Targeting rework. Attacks now attempt to aim at where a target will be rather than their current position.
  • Improved camera following behavior.
  • Attack ranges corrected for the dimetric perspective. Only updated for train cars so far.
  • Base resolution increased.
  • Tutorial updated and can now be skipped.
  • Keyboard and scroll wheel controls.

Train

  • New Cleric Train Car. Dispatches enemies by calling down a holy smite that explodes inflicting AoE damage after a short delay.
  • Unique artwork for each train car.
  • Max train size increased to 16 (+2).
  • New upgrades for all train cars.
  • New car accuracy attribute. Some cars' attacks will be more accurate than others.
  • Increased train car sell values.

Enemies

  • Hell Bat. Fragile but fast, these enemies will close in with your structures quickly. You might be tempted to ignore them but in a group, they can tear through your defenses quickly.

Defense

  • Barricades. New barricade structure has been added to the map to bolster the defense of the portal. These structures don’t attack but keep the demons at bay.
  • Improved towers effectiveness by increasing attack speed, accuracy, and projectile speed.

Shop

  • Upgrading train capacity now always available using button under your train overview during the shop phase. Price to upgrade increase with train size.
  • Refreshing the shop now increase in price every time it’s used during a shop phase. Price will reset to 5g after each shop phase.
  • Shop items now have a rarity and train car items have an icon.
  • Adjusted item prices.
